Why College Students?
We believe that the 60 million university students worldwide are the most strategic resource for world evangelism and discipleship. They are open to new ideas and making decisions that will affect the rest of their lives. And now we're embarking on a new adventure, and we would love for you to partner with us! We are moving to Athens, Greece to begin a ministry to students in Athens Greece.
Why Greece?
In March, we visited Athens for a vision trip. We already knew that Athens was a place of great spiritual need, but it wasn't until we talked to people that our hearts absolutely broke for them. Among the variety of people we met, there was a common thread that seemed to bind them all together. One cab driver said it best as he talked about the changes Greece has experienced in the past few years, "Everything is different now, and not better. It's not just work, it's our families, our relationships, everything... we have no hope." Almost every person seemed very aware of their hopelessness. We sense that this is a unique time for Greece, when political and economic changes are causing people to take stock of their lives. Especially the college students! We hope to have an influential presence on the Universities in Athens as ambassadors of the hope that Christ alone offers.
Greece was the first European country to be evangelized (Acts 16:10), but Christianity is now more cultural than spiritual, with only 2% of the population in any kind of church on an average Sunday. Only 15,000 (0.04%) have a vital relationship with Christ in Greece today. The need is great.
So Now What?
We will be a part of the first campus team in Athens! Our team will pioneer uncharted territory as we seek to reach the 100,000 students in Athens. It will definitely be an adventure as we search for open doors for the Gospel. We pray that one day every Greek student will know someone who truly knows Jesus. For now though, we may be their first friends who have a relationship with Christ. We have committed the next three to five years to work towards changing that!
