FAQ’s
We’ve loved meeting with people and telling them about what we’re going to be doing. As we’ve spent the past couple of weeks telling people about our vision for college students in Athens, we’ve gotten to answer a bunch of questions… some more frequently than others. Here are the most Frequently Asked Questions:
What language do they speak?
Put simply, Greeks speak Greek. You know the phrase, “It’s all Greek to me!” It’s actually modern Greek, not ancient Greek. Yes, they do use the symbols of your sorority and fraternity, but pronounce them differently. They’re also pretty good at English, which helps us a lot, since Greek is still all Greek to us.
Are you going to take classes?
While we considered taking English classes and being at the top of our class for the first time ever, instead we’ll be students at Athens University taking Greek for foreigners. The students are proficient in English, which will help us immensely for the first couple of months, but we really want to be proficient in their heart language.
What will you be doing?
After spending a few hours in class, slaving over Greek words (which are much easier than Chinese characters), we’ll dedicate our first year to being students of Greek students. We want to know what occupies their thoughts, what American pop song is their favorite, how they spend their time, what excites them, why they feel hopeless, and where they feel their need for Christ.
What’s the weather like?
Fabulously Mediterranean. Let me just say this, there are no mosquitos!
Will there be other people with you?
We’ll be on a team of 10 people, ten amazing people who we are really excited about pioneering with. Community will be really important as we pursue a lot of different things during our first year….lots of trial and hopefully very little error.
What can I get you to drink?
Water without ice, we’re preparing for Europe.
Welcome to our little page. We hope you'll find all sorts of things to keep you updated on what is happening in our ministry. We have
I go to church at FCC. Laura and Jason will be speaking at my Aglow event in February and I was looking for their bios on the site. As I was surfing the FCC website I found the connection to your site. What caught my attention was that you are in Athens. I spent 2 years in London earlier in life, and know how you miss some special things from home. I know it is a long time away, but I will be in Athens September 28 for about a week for an IPLOCA convention. If there is anything that you would like me to bring from home, please mark your calendar and let me know a couple of weeks in advance.
Just wondering, I skim pretty fast and miss things, but did not see why you were in Athens. Could you let me know what your position is in Greece as missionaries. I have some friends in Amsterdam if you ever get that way. The site I made them is not quite in detail as yours, and it needs some help and updating, but if you get that way they would love to see someone else from Texas. The website is www.missionwithavision.org. I will be visiting them at the end of the month as their first visitors of the year. You two take care. May God bless you for all you are doing.
Love,
Tere
